The Terriers (10-3-1, 5-0 PL) had their nine-game unbeaten streak snapped by Boston College, 3-1, on Tuesday in the final non-conference match-up of the regular season and now have the opportunity to clinch a berth in the PL tournament with a win over the Greyhounds (5-6-2, 2-3 PL).
Both squads are in their second year in the Patriot League. In their first meeting since 1992 last season, the Terriers dominated possession and finished with a 15-6 advantage in shots. Senior Dominique Badji scored early in the first half, and junior Lucas McBride added the insurance goal late in the second.
Loyola is 4-1 at home and will be facing its second ranked opponent of the year after an earlier 1-1 draw against then-No. 21 UMBC back on Sept. 20. Connor Thompson leads the Greyhounds with three goals this year, while senior Joseph Cahalan and sophomore Ryan Tuck have two goals each. Playing every second at net, Matt Sanchez owns a 1.10 goals against average and 0.773 save percentage with four shutouts, highlighted by blank sheets against Colgate and Drexel.
Badji scored his team-leading seventh goal on Tuesday against the Eagles to push his point total to a personal-best 17 points. Freshman Bjarki Benediktsson has a team-high four assists, while classmate David Amirani has four goals and two helpers for 10 points. Senior Nick Thomson has a 0.77 goals against average and 0.825 save percentage with six shutouts.
Following the game, BU will return to Nickerson Field and host Colgate on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
