Saturday Recap: No. 25 Terriers Earn 0-0 Senior Day Draw with American
BOSTON - Following the conclusion of Saturday's Patriot League results, the No. 25 Boston University men's soccer team has clinched the top seed and right to host the final two rounds of the upcoming conference tournament on Nov. 14-16.
The Terriers (11-3-3) improved to 20 points (6-0-2 PL) in the conference standings with an earlier 0-0 draw against American (14 pts., 4-2-2 PL). Navy (17 pts., 5-1-2 PL) was the only other team within striking distance to host but posted a 1-1 draw at Loyola later in the night.
BU owns the tiebreaker over the Midshipmen due to a 2-1 home victory over Navy back on Sept. 27. Led by 30th-year head coach Neil Roberts, the Terriers have now captured at least a share of their 12th conference regular season title with the last one coming in the America East back in 2011. In total, BU has earned four in the last seven years.
The news marks a major turnaround from last season in which the Terriers went 3-6-0 in the Patriot League and missed out on the conference tournament. Despite clinching the top seed this year though, the Terriers will still have much to play for next Saturday (Nov. 8) in the regular season finale at Bucknell (8-9-1, 4-3-1 PL).
The offense will want to get back on track after being held off the scoreboard for the first time since Sept. 7, and BU will want to maintain its strong RPI ranking after entering this past week at No. 36.
Finally, the team has the opportunity to end a conference schedule without a loss for the first time since 1994.
Information on tickets and times will be released at a later date through GoTerriers.com and PatriotLeague.org. The semifinals will be held at Nickerson Field on Friday, Nov. 14 with the championship taking place on Sunday, Nov. 16.
