BOSTON - After helping lead the Boston University men's soccer team to its first conference regular season title since 2011, senior forward Dominique Badji and senior back Kelvin Madzongwe have received NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Men's All-Northeast Region honors, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced Wednesday afternoon.
A native of Dakar, Senegal, Badji saved his best for his final year with the Terriers, as he tallied a personal-best eight goals, four assists and 20 points. The reigning Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year propelled BU to its first conference tournament final since 2008 with a thrilling golden goal off a header against Army's PL Goalkeeper of the Year Winston Boldt. Placed on the third team as a junior, he becomes the first Terrier since the defender Dan Schultz in 2008 to receive All-Region First Team honors.
Named to the second team for the second time after first being recognized back in 2011, the former America East Defender of the Year Madzongwe (Magwegwe, Zimbabwe) had battled injuries over the last two years, playing a combined 11 games. This season, he was an imposing figure in the backline to help the Terriers shut out nine teams and finish the year ranked 19th nationally in goals against average (0.75).
