Terriers Cage Leopards, 4-0, To Stay Unbeaten In PL
October 10, 2015 | Women's Soccer
EASTON, Pa. - Scoring early and often, the Boston University women's soccer team found its fourth shutout victory of the season with a 4-0 win at Lafayette on Saturday afternoon.
The Terriers (6-5-3, 4-0-1 PL) stay unbeaten in conference play while the Leopards are still on the prowl for their first Patriot League victory of the season (5-5-1, 0-4-1 PL).
Alyssa Parisi collected her fourth shutout of the season, making two saves along the way, and got some help from Bridget Conway, who relieved the senior net-minder for the final 16 minutes.
Jenna Fisher was a big contributor for the Terriers, totaling three points off of a goal and an assist, her best single-game performance of the season.
Despite the score, the BU offense only took eight shots throughout the contest, an indicator of the Terriers' discipline on defense and in the midfield. The Leopards were limited to just four total shots, all of which were in the first half.
Christina Wakefield got BU on the board early on with an incredible play in the box in the ninth minute. A Lafayette goal kick was fielded by Clare Pleuler, who headed back into the box. Wakefield out-ran a defender and blocked the goalie's clear attempt and stayed on her feet to easily send in the first goal of the game.
Just three minutes later BU made it a 2-0 lead off of a corner. Rachel Bloznalis served the set piece, which Fisher redirected to Erica Kosienski, who tapped it backwards into the net. Both Bloznalis and Fisher earned assists on the goal.
Lafayette responded with two shots on net over the next 20 minutes but both were saved by Parisi, who wasn't tested for the remainder of the contest.
BU made it a three-goal game before halftime when Alex Schlobohm sent in her second of the season with five minutes left in the first period. McKenna Doyle worked the ball into the right corner and sent a pass out to Schlobohm in the box. She extends to get a foot on it and the ball takes a fortunate hop past a defender, who she is able to beat to send it far-side and make it a 3-0 BU lead by halftime.
The Terriers tallied one more goal before the end of the game when Doyle chased down a ball in the right corner and sent a cross to the middle of the box. Fisher collected the ball with no defenders to beat and one-timed it into the back of the net.
BU skips playing a midweek contest and is back in action next Saturday, Oct. 17 at Nickerson Field. The Terriers will celebrate their seniors before a 2 p.m. game against Lehigh, which will be aired on the Patriot League Network.
