BOSTON - After playing four of its last five games on the road, the Boston Universiy men's soccer team will open a three-game homestand against Albany in its final non-conference matchup Tuesday night at Nickerson Field with a 7 p.m. start time.
The Terriers (9-3-1) own an NCAA RPI ranking of 32 after splitting last week's matchups, 2-0 loss at Brown and 1-0 OT win at Lafayette, while the Great Danes (7-6-1) sit at No. 76 following 2-1 home wins over Hartford and UMass Lowell.
TERRIER TIDBITS
• A scoring change took place in Saturday's win at Lafayette ... Originally the goal was credited as an own goal, but a slowing down of the Patriot League Network footage proved sophomore Danny Foen was the 10th Terrier this season to score a goal.
• The Terriers are 4-1-1 at home this year with the lone loss coming against Boston College (3-2) in the season opener ... They have shut out their last three non-conference opponents at home, including another America East member UMass Lowell (1-0) ... Also defeated Siena (1-0) and Harvard (3-0).
• BU is 3-0-1 in overtime games this year with golden goals at Lafayette, at Fordham and at Colgate ... Bucknell forced the lone tie at Nickerson Field ... Albany is 0-2-1 in OT this season.
• With two saves on Saturday, junior Matt Gilbert earned his sixth shutout of the season ... Gilbert ranks 11th nationally in save percentage at .851 and 16th in saves per game (4.85).
• Sophomore Anthony Viteri missed the Lafayette game due to injury but still remains the team leader with six goals ... Freshman Magnus Benediktsson leads in assists with four total.
SCOUTING ALBANY
• Albany has had an up-and-down season as evidenced by its 7-6-1 record but is still experiencing its best season since going 12-4-2 in 2008.
• The Great Danes are 2-4 on the road with wins at George Mason (2-0) and Lafayette (1-0) ... They also own wins over two previous Terrier opponents, UMass (4-0) and UMass Lowell (2-1).
• Five individuals have combined for the 19 Albany goals ... Afonso Pinheiro owns a team-high eight goals with an assist for 17 points, while Leo Melgar owns five goals and one assist ... Pedro Espindola leads in assists with four helpers.
• Albany has relied on two keepers this season with both combining for five shutouts ... Eric Orologio has eight starts and owns a .714 save percentage with a 0.97 goals against average ... Danny Vitiello has six starts with a .810 save percentage and 1.25 goals against average.
SERIES HISTORY
• BU is 10-2-2 all-time in a series dating back to 1999 against the Great Danes and has won the last four meetings by a combined score of 11-3 ... The Terriers are 4-2-1 at home.
• In 2012, BU outshot the Great Danes, 18-3, to claim a 2-0 home victory after claiming a 2-1 win in Albany the year prior ... Senior Lucas McBride is the lone Terrier who participated in the contest at Nickerson Field.
UP NEXT
• The Terriers will continue the three-game homestand against Lehigh on Saturday (Oct. 24) at 7 p.m. ... BU has a total of four conference regular season games remaining.
