Duo Deemed PL Players of the Week
October 26, 2015 | Women's Soccer
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Following the win at Army that sealed the Boston University women’s soccer team as the Patriot League Regular Season Champions, two Terriers earned conference honors with Rachel Bloznalis earning PL Defender of the Week and McKenna Doyle earning PL Offensive Player of the Week.
This is the second time Bloznalis has earned the honor, and for good reason, as she continues to be an important factor on shutting down offenses while helping her own on set-piece service. The East Bridgewater, Mass. native has helped the Terrier defense string together four straight shutouts and has not allowed an opponent to score for the last 386 minutes.
Bloznalis also had an incredible week, offensively, as she collected her first career goal, a 25-yard blast off of a free kick that tucked into the top left corner to put the Terriers up 2-0 against Holy Cross. On Saturday, her corner service connected with Julianna Chen to give her a three-point week.
While Doyle has earned a weekly honor before this season, the freshman earns PL Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career. Doyle has been a mainstay on the Terrier attack and this week was no different as she scored the game-winning goal against Army and netted a goal against Holy Cross for a four-point week. In total, the Manhattan Beach, Calif. native has totaled 10 points in league play this season, including four goals, to help BU to its regular season title.
The Terriers will host the PL Tournament on Nov. 6 and 8 at times to be determined. BU will first travel to Navy, however, to finish up its regular season slate. Game time is set for 5 p.m. and will air on the Patriot League Network.
