BOSTON - Riding a four-game unbeaten streak, the Boston University men's soccer team will conclude a two-game road trip at Colgate on Wednesday with action set for 7 p.m.
The Terriers (6-2-1, 1-0-1 PL) posted 1-0 shutout wins against UMass Lowell and American last week to sky rocket more than 30 spots in the RPI rankings to a Patriot League-high No. 60. They will put their streak on the line against No. 92 Colgate (4-4-1, 1-1-0 PL), who is searching for its first goal against BU since the two teams met as fellow conference members in 2013.
TERRIER TIDBITS
• Coming off the win in D.C. against the Eagles, BU is 3-1-0 on the road this season with 2-1 overtime win at defending A-10 champ Fordham and 2-1 victory at UMass ... The Terriers fell at Princeton, 2-1, on an 87th-minute goal off a corner kick.
• The Terriers are riding an 11-game unbeaten streak in conference regular season action ... Last year, they went 6-0-3 for their first unbeaten league record since 1994 ... A win or tie at Colgate would mark the best streak since BU went 12 conference games without during the 2001 and 2002 seasons.
• BU has opened a season without being shut out through nine games for the first time since 1994 ... That squad scored in the first 10 games of the year.
• Seven Terriers have scored at least one goal this year with sophomore Anthony Viteri and junior Felix De Bona being the lone men to find the back of the net more than once ... Viteri owns a team-high 12 points (5g, 2a), while De Bona has four goals following his fourth-minute game winner at American.
• Freshman Adam Wright on Saturday became the fifth Terrier to reach two assists this season with a cross for De Bona to score with at American ... Rookies T.J. Butzke and Magnus Benediktsson also have two helpers apiece.
• Junior Matt Gilbert owns four shutouts this season after tallying two last week and being named both NSCAA College Player and Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week ... He currently ranks 15th nationally in save percentage (.840) and 22nd in saves per game (4.67).
SCOUTING COLGATE
• The Raiders have had an up-and-down season, as evidenced by their 4-4-1 record ... They have impressive wins over then-No. 19 American (2-1) and defending Ivy League champion Dartmouth (1-0) along with a 1-1 draw against Northwestern ... However, they have been shut out in three of the last four games with losses to Lehigh (1-0), Syracuse (2-0) and Duquesne (1-0).
• Colgate is 3-3-0 at home this season with a 2-1 loss to Rutgers and 2-1 overtime win over UC Riverside.
• Opponents only have one more goal scored than Colgate despite owning a 107-81 advantage in shot attempts with a 48-31 lead in corner kicks.
• Ethan Kutler leads the Raiders with 11 points off four goals and three assists ... Jared Stroud has two assists, while Troy Moo Penn owns two goals.
• Ricky Brown has played every second at goal and has a 1.19 goals against average with a .776 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY
• BU leads the all-time series, 5-0-2, in a series that dates back to 1979 ... The teams had a break from 1986-2008.
• The Terriers have won both Patriot League meetings by a combined score of 5-0 ... In 2013, Gilbert tallied seven saves in a 3-0 shutout victory at Colgate that featured Dominique Badji ('14) recording two goals.
• Last year, BU was outshot, 8-7, but still prevailed, 2-0, at home behind two second-half goals ... Brown has allowed all five goals in the two games while earning just a combined two saves.
UP NEXT
• The Terriers return home to host Loyola Maryland on Saturday (Oct. 10) at 1 p.m. before going on another two-game road trip.
• BU posted a 2-0 shutout win over the Greyhounds in 2013 at Nickerson Field and was 37 seconds away from a 1-0 win at Loyola last season ... However, the Greyhounds netted the equalizer and held off the Terriers for a 1-1 draw.
