Trio of Terriers Earn PL Major Awards
November 2, 2015 | Women's Soccer
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Three members of the Boston University women’s soccer team earned Patriot League year-end honors following an undefeated conference schedule, the league announced on Monday afternoon. The Terriers also had 10 players named to the All-Patriot League teams.
Preseason favorite McKenzie Hollenbaugh lived up to expectations and was named Defender of the Year while classmate Alyssa Parisi earned Goalkeeper of the Year honors. McKenna Doyle rounded out the BU selections with a Rookie of the Year nod, giving the Terriers three of the four player of the year awards.
Currently on an 11-game unbeaten streak and six-game shutout streak, Parisi heads into the Patriot League Tournament with a conference-leading 0.70 overall goals against average and 0.23 GAA in league action. She has not allowed a goal in her last 475 minutes in net and completed the conference schedule with seven shutouts in nine games including the last five of the year.
Hollenbaugh is partially to blame for Parisi’s poor marks in saves per game, however, as she is the backbone of a Terrier defense that allowed the fewest shots on net throughout league play. As a unit, just two goals and 29 attempts on net were permitted throughout the nine-game conference schedule.
Doyle made her presence known early for the Terriers, as she contributed point on each of the first two BU goals of the season, assisting on the first and scoring the next. She shined in conference play, leading the league in goals scored with four throughout the Patriot League schedule and trails only the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, Rosy Hayes, in points per game, averaging 1.11 in league action. In total, Doyle has a team-leading six goals and 15 points.
Parisi and Hollenbaugh joined midfielder Clare Pleuler, forward Jenna Fisher and defender Rachel Bloznalis on the All-Patriot League First Team while Doyle joins her classmate in the midfield, Julianna Chen and defender Rachel Blauner on the second team. Forwards Christina Wakefield and Erica Kosienski each earned a spot on the All-Patriot League Third Team.
