AMHERST, Mass. - Concluding a five-game road trip, the Boston University men's basketball team dropped a 99-69 decision at UMass on Wednesday night.
With the help of 13 3-pointers, the Minutemen improve to 5-1, while the Terriers fall to 3-4 after making their first visit to the Mullins Center since 2010.
Following sophomore Cheddi Mosely's game-tying 3-pointer (12-12) at 14:35 in the first half, the Minutemen went on a 19-3 run and never looked back, extending the lead to as high as 37 points (99-62) late in the second half.
Three Terriers finished in double figures with preseason All-Patriot League honoree Cedric Hankerson tallying 10 points in his first appearance of the season. Last year's top scorer (15.9 ppg) played a limited 12 minutes after suffering a leg injury back in April. Senior Justin Alston recorded a team-high 13 points, and classmate Nathan Dieudonne earned 10 points with a career-high six assists. Sophomore Eric Johnson also had a career night with seven points and six assists in his third-ever start.
UMass' three starting guards entered the contest averaging a combined 54 points per game and tallied 58 total against the Terriers, as the Minutemen finished 38-of69 (.551) from the field. Trey Davis earned 20 points, five assists and three steals with Jabarie Hinds posting 18 points, six assists and three steals. Donte Clark added 20 points, while center Rashaan Holloway recorded 18 points and seven rebounds.
The Minutemen shot a stifling 68.8 percent in the first half, highlighted by a 9-of-12 performance from behind the arc, for the 54-26 lead. They finished the contest outscoring the Terriers in points off turnovers, 17-6, as BU was without the services of two-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week Kyle Foreman due to injury.
BU will next return home for the first time since Nov. 16 and host defending Ivy League champion Harvard on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.
