LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell used a walk-off homer and 10 hits in the second game to claim a doubleheader sweep against the Boston University softball team on Saturday afternoon at Becker Field.

With the two losses (2-1, 6-1) and their eight-game win streak snapped, the Terriers (17-26, 7-10 PL) have been eliminated from participation in next week's four-team Patriot League tournament. They had their chances with the bases loaded three times but could not get the timely hit and ultimately left a combined 18 runners on base.

Bucknell (32-18,11-6 PL) had a solo shot from Erin Cox to claim a 2-1 win and then took advantage of a four-run fifth behind five hits to earn a 6-1 victory in the rematch. Amanda Fazio (17-10) collected both victories, pitching a combined eight innings with seven strikeouts and one run allowed.

Sophomore Makinna Akers (7-10) started both contests for the Terriers and allowed just two earned runs in a combined nine innings of work. Freshman Jilee Schanda, freshman Emma Wong and sophomore Moriah Connolly led BU with three hits apiece with sophomore Gabi Martinez earning the lone RBI of the day.

After stranding a runner at first and second in the first, BU loaded the bases in the third with one out. Dana Nielsen got a line out to left and earned one of her seven strikeouts to get out of the jam. The Bison followed in the bottom half with a walk and then an RBI double from Cydnee Sanders to grab the 1-0 advantage.

The Terriers got on the scoreboard in the fifth thanks to an error by Sanders. Connolly led off with a single and advanced to second following a misplayed ball by the catcher. Wong then hit a hard ball under Sanders' legs, allowing Connolly to score. BU later loaded the bases with zero outs but lined into a double play to end the threat.

Connolly earned another lead-off single in the top of the seventh but was ruled to have left early when attempting to steal second. All of the missed opportunities came back to hurt BU, as Cox homered to left on a 1-2 pitch for the walk-off victory.

In the second game, Wong and Schanda hit back-to-back one-out singles. Martinez doubled to right center for the early 1-0 lead and put two runners in scoring position. Starting in the circle, Fazio induced a pair of infield pop ups to keep BU from adding more on the scoreboard.

The Bison did not need much time to grab the lead. In the bottom half of the first with two outs, Bucknell had a two-out walk and then a single to right that was misplayed, allowing a run to score. Meghan Kovovac followed with an RBI single for the 2-1 advantage.

Bucknell added four more runs in the fifth against junior Melanie Russell, who relieved Akers in the third for the Terriers. BU tried to mount a rally in the sixth by loading the bases with two outs but had a pop up to end the inning.

The Terriers will conclude the 2015 season against the Bison on Sunday (May 3) with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
