
De Vries, Sandoval Named ITA Scholar Athletes

BOSTON - After helping lead the Boston University men's tennis team to its second consecutive Patriot League semifinal appearance, rising juniors Jake De Vries and Mario Sandoval were named ITA Scholar Athletes.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
Sandoval is majoring in human physiology and earned his second ITA honor. He finished his sophomore season at BU with 11 singles wins, including five at the No. 4 slot, and 10 doubles victories, highlighted by five in the No. 2 spot.
De Vries received his first honor while majoring in journalism. This past season, he collected 13 wins in singles action, including four at No. 2. He also posted 13 wins in doubles, highlighted by a 7-5 mark in the No. 3 slot.
Both men were previously named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for owning a GPA of 3.20 or higher alongside recent graduate Emilio Teran and rising senior Stefan Lemire.
