Terrier Duo Reaches Round of 16 at ITA Regionals

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Highlighted by its second consecuive run to the Round of 16 in doubles action, the Boston University women's tennis team competed at the ITA Regional Championships presented by Oracle over the weekend at Yale's Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
Last season, sophomore Sabrina Faybyshev claimed Patriot League Doubles Team of the Year accolades with Johanna Hyoty ('16) following their strong performance at the ITAs. This year, she teamed up with senior Barbara Rodriguez for an upset victory over Yale's No. 4-seed Jiang/Zordani, 8-7(5), to begin the tournament. They followed up with an 8-7(2) win against Rutgers' Lee/Du before dropping an 8-2 decision to Cornell's Shah/Inuma, who were one of the eight "9-16" seeds.
Junior Iryna Kostirko led BU in singles action by quickly dispatching Stony Brook's Devanshi Bhimiiyami, 6-3, 6-1. She won the first set in the Round of 64 and reached the tiebreaker in the second, but Dartmouth's No. 17-32 seed Jacqueline Crawford rallied for the 1-6, 7-6(8), 6-4 victory.
The Terriers will next conclude the fall schedule at the Harvard Invitational on Nov. 4-6.
