KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the first time in three years, the Boston University women's soccer team received a Scholar All-America award after senior and reigning Patriot League Defender of the Year Rachel Bloznalis was named to the second team, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced Thursday afternoon.
Previously placed on the Patriot League All-Academic squad, Bloznalis becomes the seventh Terrier under head coach Nancy Feldman to earn the prestigious national academic honor and the first since Kylie Strom in 2013. She was just one of 12 NCAA DI defenders across the three teams to be recognized.
The Upton, Mass., native helped the Terriers shut out five conference opponents this season and limit Patriot League schools to just 3.33 shots on goal per game en route to the PL tournament final. She also tallied three goals with game-winning scores against American and Navy.
Academically, Bloznalis currently holds a 3.37 GPA as a health science major in Sargent College and is a participant in the Bloom Family Leadership Academy. She has spent countless hours volunteering in not only the Boston community, but the global community as well, signing on with Coaches Across Continents and spending four weeks in Cameroon last summer as a volunteer coach, using soccer as a vehicle for social change.
