BOSTON - The Boston University swimming and diving team celebrated the 2015-16 season with its annual year-end banquet where captains for next season and team awards were announced.
For the women's team, Lizzie Tillo will again captain the diving team while Kaitlin Law and Danielle Yoon were named co-captains of the swimmers. Tillo was the Patriot League Diver of the Meet as a freshman and captained the diving team during her sophomore campaign last season.
On the men's side, Eric Mitchell remains the diving captain while Garrett Chin and Chris Downing will be the leaders of the swimmers. Chin led BU in point scoring at the Patriot League Championships this spring after medaling in both the 400 IM and 200 backstroke.
"I'm excited to announce our captains for the 2016-2017 season," head coach Bill Smyth said. "With this group I'm looking forward to the experience that Lizzie and Eric will bring back and also see them grow their leadership skills. Everybody has a great vision for what this team can become and they are all great leaders by example, demanding of themselves and of their teammates. With their leadership, the upcoming season should be fast and exciting"
This year's team award winners were also announced at the banquet. Julimar Avila and Trevor Winans were named Rookie of the Year, Kyra Tatlow and David Thiede were named the diving MVPs and Stephanie Nasson and Garrett Chin were named the swimming MVPS and won the Hardest Worker award.
The Reagh Wetmore Coaches Award was given to Mika Spencer and Chris Downing while the strength and conditioning awards went to Daniel Andronov and Danielle Yoon. The most inspirational award was given to Bianca Tocci and Tanner Cridland.
The team's outstanding performance in the classroom was also recognized as the women's team finished the last two semesters with an outstanding 3.36 combined GPA and the men's team totaled a 3.18 GPA over those same two semesters.
Grace Anderson finished the last two semesters with a 3.88 GPA while Chris Downing compiled a 3.65 GPA to lead their respective teams.
