Fantastic Fourth Quarter Paces BU to 68-50 Win over Lafayette

BOSTON - Junior Corrine Williams scored a career-high 21 points and was one of three Terriers in double figures as the Boston University women's basketball team defeated Lafayette, 68-50, on Sunday afternoon at Case Gym.

Highlights
THE TURNING POINT
- Lafayette hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to cut the Terrier lead to 48-41 after three quarters.
- BU outscored the Leopards, 20-9, in the final 10 minutes thanks to Williams tallying 10 of her 11 fourth-quarter points during a 12-2 Terrier run to open the stanza.
- Thanks to five points from freshman Nia Irving and four more from junior Sophie Beaudry, BU led the Leopards, 14-11, after the opening quarter.
- Senior Sarah Hope went 3-of-4 from 3-point range in the first half, with her third trey from well beyond the arc giving the Terriers their largest lead of the first half at 32-20. The Leopards got a point back at the free throw line and BU went to the locker room up by 11, 32-21.
- It was more of the same for the Terriers to begin the third quarter, as they opened the frame on a 7-2 run that was capped by a bucket from Irving to give them a 39-23 lead.
- Hope (12 pts) and Williams (10 pts) each reached double figures through three quarters, but Lafayette hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to cut the Terrier lead to 48-41 after three quarters.
- BU shot 50 percent from the field in each of the final two quarters and held Lafayette to just 16.7 percent shooting over the final 10 minutes.
- The Terrier defense held Lafayette to 29.3% shooting on Sunday, marking the first time they have held a team below 30 percent from the floor since Feb. 17, 2016, when BU kept Colgate to a 28.8% mark.
- Hope reached double figures for the second straight contest and for the fourth time in the last five games.
- BU out-rebounded the Leopards, 38-32, and outscored Lafayette in the paint, 34-14. The Terriers also collected 13 second-chance points.
- Sunday's 18-point win is the largest victory of the season and the Terriers' biggest win since a 19-point victory on Feb. 18, 2014.
- BU will hit the road on Wednesday when the Terriers travel to Washington, D.C., to face American.
