DAY 1 PENTATHLON RESULTS
MEN'S PREVIEW
BOSTON - The Boston University women's track & field team will look to defend its 2016 title as it hosts the Patriot League Championships at the Track and Tennis Center beginning Friday and continuing through Sunday.
In the Day 1 pentathlon competition on Friday, senior Christie Molloy finished in second place behind Sarah Cassidy of Lehigh. BU freshman Gilliam Morrison took fourth place.
Through one event, BU has the early point lead with 17, followed by Lehigh (10 pts.,) Army (6 pts.) Bucknell (5 pts.) and Holy Cross (1 pt.)
The action continues on Saturday with the conclusion of the men's heptathlon, men and women's weight throw, long jump and high jump as well as the finals in the 5,000-meter runs and 4 x 800 relays.
The championship will conclude on Sunday with 24 track finals as well as the pole vault, triple jump and shot put.
The Boston University women's track & field team will look for another big performance from senior Toria Levy. The reigning PL Indoor Track Athlete of the Year has the top times in three events entering the weekend. Levy ran a 8.62 in the 60m hurdles at the David Hemery Valentine Invite on Feb. 10, tying her own record for the fastest time in the Patriot League this season. At the same event, she finished second in the 400-meter dash in 54.49, fastest time in the PL this season. Levy also owns the leagues' best time in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:11.70.
At last year's PL Championships, Levy won the 60m hurdles (8.73) and took first place in the 500m dash (1:12.81) and was name PL Female Track Athlete of the Year.
Junior transfer Ayodele Adesanya is ranked second behind Levy in the 400m dash (55.57) while freshman Leah Fowlkes is third (55.87).
BU's 4 x 400 relay team of Levy, senior Djenne Parris, graduate student Christy Wood and junior Ayodele Adesanya enter the championships with the fastest time of 3:44.38, set at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White.
In the field, sophomore Lovie Burleson is ranked number one in both the long jump (5.93m, 19', 5.5") and the triple jump (12.11m, 39' 8.75") while sophomore Kennedy Jones is ranked second in the triple jump on the strength of her 11.94m, (39' 2.25") leap a the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invite.
Last year, the Terriers won the Patriot League Championships after recording nine first place event finishes including the final event of the meet, the 4 x 400m relay, to earn 183 team points, 7 more than second-place finisher Bucknell (176).
In addition to the Patriot League Championships this weekend, the Boston University men's and women's track & field teams will host their annual alumni weekend celebration. After Saturday's competition, the Terriers will hold their Wall of Honor reception at the TTC.
