BOSTON – After wrapping up its longest road trip since 2004-05 with a two-game win streak, the Boston University men's basketball team returns home to host UMass Lowell on Tuesday night with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early, as the marketing staff will be handing out free cookies as part of National Cookie Day. There will also be a TV giveaway and free admission for all Greek Life Members.TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU has held five of its last seven opponents under 34 FG% and currently ranks 74th nationally in defensive FG% (.399) ... The Terriers held Rutgers, New Hampshire and Elon to a combined 50-of-159 (.314), their best three-game performance since limiting Hartford, Binghamton and UMBC to 53-of-169 (.283) in Jan. 2005.
- The Terriers are 1-1 at home this season with a 78-72 loss to America East preseason favorite Vermont and 94-57 win over Emerson.
- BU is 2-1 against the America East, which it helped form back in 1979 ... The Terriers followed up on the loss to the Catamounts with wins at Albany (71-61) and New Hampshire (82-53).
- Juniors Max Mahoney (14.0 ppg) and Tyler Scanlon (13.5 ppg) are the team's top two scorers after tallying 18 points apiece in Saturday's win at Elon ... Scanlon also leads the team in rebounding (5.6 rpg), assists (3.4 apg) and steals (1.0 spg), while Mahoney is shooting what would proved to be a school-record 63.5 FG%.
- Sophomore Javante McCoy (11.4 ppg, 4.0 rpg) has led BU in rebounding in three of the last four games, highlighted by a career-tying eight boards at Elon ... He is shooting 42.5 percent from behind the arc.
- Freshman Jack Hemphill was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday after averaging 6.5 ppg and 3.5 rpg in two wins ... He is the third active Terrier to earn the award, joining Scanlon (2x) and sophomore Walter Whyte.
- The Terriers are averaging 70.4 ppg and 46.7 FG% while holding opponents to 66.8 ppg and 39.9 FG%.
- Coming off a 94-71 home win over NJIT, the River Hawks are 5-5 this season after posting a 12-18 mark last year ... They are 0-5 in true road games with losses at UConn (97-75), Duquesne (83-71), Brown (82-74), Central Connecticut State (86-74) and UMass (83-75).
- UML is 1-0 against the Patriot League this season with a 92-85 win over Army at Brown's three-day tournament.
- UML is shooting an impressive 48.8 FG% and is averaging 82.5 ppg with the help of 17.6 assists per game ... Four River Hawks are averaging double figures in points.
- 6-foot-4 guard Obadiah Noel is averaging a team-high 16.0 ppg, while Radford transfer Christian Lutete is nearly averaging a double-double at 14.5 ppg and 8.6 rpg.
- Opponents are averaging 82.0 ppg and 46.0 FG% against the River Hawks ... Only NJIT and UMass Boston have scored fewer than 82 points this season.
- The teams are meeting for the sixth straight season after BU won the initial meeting in 1985-86 at home.
- The series is tied, 3-3, with UML winning the last two contests by a combined seven points at home in 2017 (87-82) and 2016 (77-75).
- BU is 2-1 at home following 91-65 win in 2013 and 69-59 loss in 2014.
