TURNING POINT
- After Radford transfer Christian Lutete hit a layup to cut BU's lead to 44-40 at 13:16, freshman Jordan Guest drained a 3-pointer on the next two Terrier possessions to spark a 22-8 run capped by freshman Fletcher Tynen's offensive rebound and putback at 7:08.
- Tynen extended the lead to 20 points (70-50) for the first time at 4:18 on a layup, and Mahoney gave the Terriers their largest lead at 2:49 (74-51) by assisting on Tynen's slam dunk and then shortly thereafter hitting a layup.
- Owning a 34-32 halftime lead, the Terriers shot 58.1 percent from the field in the second half while holding the River Hawks to 40 FG%.
- Obadiah Noel opened the contest with a jumper, and the River Hawks followed up by forcing four turnovers to jump out to a 10-2 lead with Ryan Jones' converting on his own steal at 17:26.
- After noticing that five Terriers were awaiting to sub into the game, the BU starters settled down with a 3-pointer from sophomore Sukhmail Mathon and tip-in by Mahoney.
- Joey Glynn flushed both of his free throws at 9:09 for an 18-13 UML advantage, but Scanlon responded with a layup and later a 3-pointer at 6:24 during the 10-2 spurt to give BU the lead for good.
- After Mahoney gave BU its largest lead of the half at 1:37 (32-25) on a layup, Bryce Daley assisted on Lutete's fastbreak basket with a steal and then helped on a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 32-30.
- Daley then responded to Tynen's layup at the 11-second mark with two free throws with under a second remaining to keep BU's halftime lead at just two points (34-32).
- Mahoney opened the second half with a defensive rebound and jumper on freshman Garrett Pascoe's assist, but the Terriers couldn't create any breathing room until Guest hit his first of two 3-pointers at 13:02.
- Sitting at 6-4, the Terriers are off to their best start through 10 games since opening 6-4 in 2013-14 en route to a Patriot League regular season title.
- BU is now 3-0 this season when given the opportunity to avenge a loss from last season, defeating UML, Northeastern and Elon.
- BU had two players reach 20+ points in the same game for the first time since Mahoney (27 pts.) and sophomore Javante McCoy (21 pts.) combined for 48 points in the 2018 Patriot League quarterfinal win at Lehigh (88-82).
- Mahoney reached 20+ points for the second time this season and also earned BU's second double-double of the season after reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week Jack Hemphill had 14 points and 12 rebounds in the last home game against Emerson on Nov. 11.
- Mahoney earned his second double-double against the River Hawks after he posted 29 points and 11 rebounds in last year's 87-82 road loss.
- Both Tynen and Guest contributed eight points apiece off the bench, while redshirt-freshman Alex Vilarino had six points and three rebounds.
- BU went 13-of-17 (.765) from the charity stripe against UML's 8-of-13 (.615) performance to finish with more made free throws than an opponent for the second consecutive game after failing to accomplish the feat in the first eight contests.
- The Terriers outscored the River Hawks in the paint, 52-42, and had a 15-4 advantage in second-chance points after posting a 18-0 lead in Saturday's 65-58 win at Elon.
- BU entered the contest ranked 42nd nationally in defensive 3FG% (.286) and held UML to just 2-of-16 (.125) from behind the arc.
- BU regained the lead in the all-time series against the River Hawks, 4-3, after snapping a two-game losing streak and is now 3-1 all-time at home.
- BU will take an extended break to recharge and then next visit Dartmouth on Thursday, Dec. 13, with a 7 p.m. tip on NESN.
- The teams will meet for the first time since the Terriers triumphed in Hanover, New Hampshire, 65-53, on Nov. 30, 2002.
- Eighth-year head coach Joe Jones went 8-6 against the Big Green as the head coach at Columbia from 2003-10.
