Terrier Twelve - #6: Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Standouts

July 17, 2018

For the 11th straight year, GoTerriers.com will once again count down the top 12 achievements of Boston University teams and student-athletes from the previous year. Check back each Tuesday and Friday as we reveal this year's Terrier Twelve.

Coming in at No. 6 in this year's Terrier Twelve are men's and women's track & field standouts David Oluwadara, Paul Luevano, Justin Flynn and Tehya Noell.

Competing as a graduate student, Oluwadara qualified for NCAA East Regionals in the triple jump with his school-record mark of 16.21 meters (53' 2") which he set on April 14th at the Auburn Tiger Classic. The jump broke the BU record of 16.10 meters (52'10") set by Duane Carlisle's way back in 1985.

At NCAA regionals, Oluwadara finished seventh with a leap of 16.00 meters (52'6") and was one of just 12 qualifiers to advance to Eugene, Ore. for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship. At the NCAA Championship, Oluwadara finished 13th with a jump of 15.89m (52-1¾) and earned second team All-America honors.

Sophomore Paul Luevano qualified for the NCAA regionals in the 1500m run with a time of 3:44.34 which he set at the Larry Ellis Invitational on April 21. At regionals, Luevano finished first in his heat with a time of 3:46.29, the eighth-fastest time of the day, and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals where he finished 24th with a time of 3:58.88.

On the women's team, senior Tehya Noell qualified for the NCAA regionals in the 100m hurdles by finishing first at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships with a personal-best time of 13.43 seconds. At the NCAA regionals, Noell finished 43rd with a time of 13.73 seconds. Noell also had an outstanding season as a long jumper, winning gold at the PL Championships with a leap of 6.04m (19'9.75").

In addition to three Terriers qualifying for NCAAs, graduate student Justin Flynn broke the Boston University 100m dash record while competing at the Patriot League Championships. Flynn won gold with an incredible time of 10.45. The time broke the BU school record of 10.48 set by both Cam Williams (2015) and Johann Jack (1998).
