October 20, 2019 | Men's Tennis
PHILADELPHIA – Highlighted by junior Pete Siozios' four singles wins, the Boston University men's tennis team competed over the weekend at the ITA Regional Championships hosted by Penn.
In total, the Terriers were able to advance all three competitors to the Round of 64 with Siozios claiming one more victory to become the first to reach the Round of 32 in over a decade.
Both Siozios and junior Owen Lu had to start off in the qualifying draw. Siozios rallied to defeat Army's Samuel Eden in a super tiebreaker (4-6, 6-3, 10-7) and then defeated UConn's John Holtmann in straight sets (7-6, 6-2) to reach the main draw. Lu dropped just seven games combined in wins over Army's Nikita Larichev (6-2, 6-1) and Columbia's Ben Golin (6-1, 6-3).
They continued their strong play in the opening round of the main draw. Siozios eliminated Bryant's Wilson Dong (6-2, 7-5) and Dartmouth's No. 25-seeded Peter Conklin (6-4, 7-5). In the Round of 32, he dropped a tightly-contested first set to Princeton's No. 5-seeded and 105th nationally-ranked Ryan Seggerman, 6-4, before having to retire.
Lu dispatched Cornell's Joseph McAllister, 6-3, 6-3, but then came up short to Columbia's No. 4-seeded and No. 56 nationally-ranked Adam Ambrozy, 6-2, 7-5, in the Round of 64.
Bogatin opened with a 7-6, 6-2 victory against Niagara's Jorge Sedeno Nieto, 7-6, 6-2, but was then eliminated by Columbia's Austen Huang, 6-2, 6-4.
Bogatin and sophomore Max Hartenstein represented BU in the main doubles draw and came up short to Fairfield, 8-4.
The Terriers will next compete at the Fordham Invitational on Oct. 26-27.
