Women's Tennis Wraps Up Fall Schedule at Harvard Invitational

ALLSTON, Mass. – Highlighted by a singles flight title and three combined runner-up finishes, the Boston University women's tennis team concluded the fall schedule at the three-day Harvard Invitational.

Freshman Sofia Kostirko won all three of her matches to lead the Terriers, while freshman Erica Di Battista, sophomore Shelly Yaloz, junior Alex Angyalosy and freshman Steph Nguyen all collected two victories apiece in their respective flight. Three of BU's four doubles teams collected two victories apiece with senior Lily O'Fagan and junior Dani Blaser reaching the B Flight final.

Kostirko dropped just four games in her first win over Cornell's Khary Pryce and then held off a late charge by Blaser for a 6-2, 1-6, 10-7 victory. In the Flight D title match, she rallied from a set down to defeat Cornell's Sarah Campbell, 3-6, 6-4, 10-2.

Di Battista continued her impressive singles play this fall with a pair of straight-set wins against Georgetown's Elena De Santi (6-3, 6-0) and Harvard's Rachel Eason (6-2, 6-3). Seeking her second Flight A title, she came up just short to Harvard's Natasha Gonzalez, 7-6, 7-5, for her first loss of the fall.

Nguyen was the third Terrier to reach a singles flight final. She posted straight-set victories against Georgetown's Anna Short (6-1, 6-1) and Harvard's Chelsea Williams (7-6, 6-4) before dropping a 6-3, 6-1 decision to the Crimson's Sophia Ho in the C Final.

On the doubles side, O'Fagan and Blaser won their first two matches by a combined score of 12-6 against Harvard and Cornell to reach the B Flight final. In their third match, they fell to the Crimson's Demi Snyder and Mihaela Marculescu, 6-2.

The Terriers will not officially take the court again until 2020 when they host former America East foe Binghamton on Sunday, Jan. 19, at the Mount Auburn Club in Watertown.
