BOSTON – Returning three All-Conference honorees and the reigning Patriot League Doubles Team of the Year, the Boston University women's tennis team will open the 2020 dual season against Binghamton at the Mount Auburn Club with a 3 p.m. start time.
The BU department of athletics reached an agreement this past fall for the
Mount Auburn Club (located in Watertown) to serve as the home facility for matches and practices for both the women's and men's programs.
Led by 35th-year head coach
Lesley Sheehan, the Terriers went 14-9 last season with a 6-0 Patriot League record but suffered heartbreak in the conference tournament final with a 4-3 loss to Army West Point.
Finishing with a 20-8 singles record, sophomore
Shelly Yaloz was named the PL Rookie of the Year and also added Doubles Team of the Year honors alongside junior
Emily Kim after they posted a 25-7 record. Kim went 19-13 in singles last season to claim All-PL Second Team accolades alongside junior captain
Lily Burchell, who earned a 20-10 singles mark.
During the fall tournament schedule, freshman
Erica Di Battista was nearly flawless with a 9-1 singles record. She also teamed with Clemson transfer
Alex Angyalosy for a 6-2 doubles mark, highlighted by an appearance in the ITA Northeast Regionals Round of 16 alongside Yaloz and Kim.
BU is scheduled to host six matches at the Mount Auburn Club this year, starting with Binghamton on Sunday. The Terriers last season defeated the Bearcats, 6-1.
