Terriers Earn 16-11 Victory at Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Sophomore Chris Gray recorded his second straight nine-point game to help lead the Boston University men's lacrosse team to a 16-11 victory at Sacred Heart on Tuesday afternoon at Campus Field.

BU (3-1) raced out to a 12-4 halftime lead and held off a late Sacred Heart (1-2) charge to hold on for its third win of the year. Gray collected seven of his nine points in that electric opening 30 minutes and finished the day with five goals and four assists.

Senior James Burr became the program's all-time leading goal scorer with his first goal of the day. He finished the afternoon with five points (3g, 2a) and now has 111 career goals. Burr was one of nine different Terrier goal scorers, including five freshmen. One of those freshmen, Matt Hilburn, scored his first collegiate goal. Timmy Ley led that group of rookies with three points (2g, 1a), with classmate Jett Dziama notching a career-high two points (1g, 1a). Freshman Jake Cates and Jack Collins also found the back of the net.

Sophomore Sean Christman had a career day at the faceoff X, going 19-of-23 (.826) and matching his career high with 13 ground balls. Classmate Kevin Snyder also won three draws as BU finished the afternoon an impressive 22-of-29 at the X.

Senior Brendan Homire recorded his third straight three-point game thanks to one goal and two assists. Junior Chase Levesque recorded three ground balls and scored a beautiful goal in the second quarter thanks to an assist from redshirt junior Josh Williamson. Sophomore Michael Doxie also added an assist.

Junior Joe McSorley made 15 saves, including eight in the fourth quarter to stymie the Pioneer comeback attempt. He also finished with two of the Terriers' 41 ground balls on Tuesday. Homire had four ground balls and one caused turnover while senior Quintin Germain gathered three ground balls and forced one turnover.

  • Each team tallied three goals in the third quarter, with Burr tallying twice and Ley adding the other marker.
