BOSTON - The Boston University men's and women's track & field teams will host the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the BU Track and Tennis Center. The women's competition begins on Friday with running events at 12 p.m. while the men will compete on Saturday starting with field events at 10:30 a.m.
The Terriers will once again compete against a very large and talented field made up of approximately 3,500 athletes representing more than 90 teams including hundreds of post-collegiate athletes. For a full list of accepted entries click HERE
In addition to hosting the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, the Terriers will also be raising awareness and funds over the weekend to help fund the Epilepsy Foundation's mission to lead the fight to overcome the challenges of people living with epilepsy. LAST TIME OUT
- The Terriers hosted the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational at the TTC last weekend.
- On the women's side, senior Lovie Burleson finished first in the triple jump with a leap of 12.41 meters, the best triple jump in the Patriot League this season and was named Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week. Burleson also placed second in the long jump at the Harvard Crimson Elite on Friday with a leap of 5.87 meters (19'3.25"). The Murrieta, Calif. native currently leads the Patriot League in the triple jump, while ranking second in the long jump.
- Junior Abigail Gugel had an excellent performance in the 3000m run, finishing with an excellent time of 9:47.51, second best in the PL this season.
- On the men's side, sophomore Nikolas Smith finished fourth among collegians (seventh overall) in the 400m dash with a time of 48.95.
- Junior Chiebuka Onwuzurike finished fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 21.71 in a field of 49.
- Senior Alexander Seal took fifth in the 3000m run with a time of 8:31.68 in a field of 43.
- Following this weekend's competition, the track & field teams will travel to Annapolis, Md. to compete at the Patriot League Championship hosted by Navy on Feb. 15-16.
