2019 Patriot League All-Conference Awards List
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Boston University men's basketball junior Max Mahoney (second) and freshman Jonas Harper (rookie) have both received All-Patriot League Team honors, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
The recognition marks the second award for Mahoney, who moved up a spot after being named to the third team as a sophomore last March. Twice named Rookie of the Week during conference play, Harper becomes the eighth Terrier in the last seven years under head coach Joe Jones to earn All-Rookie accolades.
A Basking Ridge, New Jersey, native, Mahoney has had a standout junior campaign, finishing the regular season fourth in the PL in scoring at 16.6 ppg and seventh at 6.4 rpg while shooting 62.4 percent from the field, the nation's 14th-best mark. His FG% is on track to shatter his school record mark of 60.1 FG% set last season. One of two players named to the Lou Henson Mid-Major Player of the Year Midseason Watch List, Mahoney recorded seven double-doubles, including six in PL play, and had back-to-back double-doubles for the first time in his career at Holy Cross (11 pts., 12 rebs.) and at home vs. Loyola Maryland (16 pts., 11 rebs.). He totaled a career-high 31 points at Loyola Maryland and posted 26 points with personal-best 14 rebounds in a home win over two-time defending conference champion Bucknell.
One of seven newcomers added to the squad this season, Harper currently ranks second in the PL in three-point shooting at 49.3 3FG%. The Stamford, Connecticut, native totaled five points and two assists with a steal in the season-opening win at Northeastern. He worked his way further into the lineup as time progressed and by conference play was a standout contributor, averaging 6.8 ppg and 55.0 FG% against PL competition. He reached double figures seven times, highlighted by a season-high 22 points at Holy Cross to claim Turnpike Trophy MVP honors. He also scored a team-high 15 points against Army and tallied 14 points at Navy. In the Feb. 23 win over Loyola Maryland, he broke a 63-63 deadlock with a 3-pointer at 53 seconds and then swiped the ball away from PL leading scorer Andrew Kostecka to help seal another victory.
The Terriers will next open the Patriot League tournament on Tuesday night by hosting Loyola Maryland in the first round at 7 p.m.
