BOSTON - The Boston University men's and women's track & field teams continued their indoor season on Saturday, hosting the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational at BU's Track and Tennis Center.
On the women's side, the Terriers had several strong performances from freshmen. Rookie
Joceline Wind finished sixth in the 1000m run with an incredible time of 2:47.62, just missing the BU school record, while classmate
Sophia Jacobs-Townsley finished the 3000m run in a time of 9:48.00, fastest in the PL this year.
On the men's side, senior Paul Lueveno competed in the 800m run and finished with an excellent time of 1:51.69, a personal best and third fastest in the PL this season.
Marcel Aubry took seventh in the 1000m run with a time of 2:25.62, a new personal best and second best in the PL this season.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES - WOMEN
- Freshman Joceline Wind finished sixth in the 1000m run with an incredible time of 2:47.62, just missing the BU school record of 2:47.40, set by Donna Adomoli way back in 1987. Wind's time is the fastest run in the PL this season by more than six seconds.
- Freshman Sophia Jacobs-Townsley finished the 3000m run in a time of 9:48.00, good for 12th in a field of 35. Her time was the fastest 3000m run in the PL this year.
- Bridget Chiaravalle qualified for the finals of the 60m hurdles and finished sixth with a time of 9:06.
- Emma Montoya competed in the 400m dash and took 10th in a field of 35 with a time of 56.33.
- Cecelia Gerstenbacher competed in the 200m dash and took 14th in a field of 40 with a time of 25.04.
- In the field, Gillian Morrison took fourth in the high jump with a jump of 1.61m.
- Freshman Natalie Kwortnik had an excellent meet, finishing first in the triple jump with a jump of 11.53 meters. She also took third in the long jump with a jump of 5.49 meters, matching her personal best.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES - MEN
- Senior Paul Luevano competed in the 800m run and finished with an excellent time of 1:51.69 and in ninth place. His time was a personal best and second fastest in the PL this season.
- Jack Reynolds qualified for the finals of the 60m hurdles and finished fifth with a time of 8.77.
- Marcel Aubry took seventh in the 1000m run with a time of 2:25.62, a new personal best and second best in the PL this season.
- In the field, Robert Saligman took second in the pole vault with a vault of 4.50m while Ben Nason took third with a vault of 4.35m, a new personal best.
- Clint Lockwood finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 14.55 meters.
- Also in the shot put, James Cole shattered his personal best with a throw of 13.23 meters and finished ninth.
CLASS OF 2020
In addition to the action on the track, Saturday was "Senior Day" and featured a special ceremony honoring the 16 team members who are part of the graduating class of 2020.
HARVARD ELITE MEET
In addition to Saturday's competition, several members of the men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Harvard Crimson Elite Meet on Friday. The Terriers competed against several universities including Harvard, Columbia, FAU, George Mason, Monmouth, Syracuse, Alabama Birmingham, Albany, UMass Lowell, RPI and Yale.
