BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Three Terriers finished in the top five, but the Boston University women's cross country team came up just short in its bid for a third consecutive conference title, placing second at the 2021 Patriot League Championship on Sunday at Lehigh.
Eight BU runners finished in the top 25 to help the Terriers total 52 points, just five back of first-place Navy (47 points).
Junior Andrea Claeson (21:14.6), graduate student Corinne Batsu (21:16.0) and senior Meghan Convery (21:36.4) were third, fourth and fifth, respectively to earn First Team All-Patriot League honors. For Convery, her 6K time was a personal-best as she posted her best-ever finish at the Patriot League Championship.
Sunday marked the first time since 2013 that BU boasted three First Team All-Patriot League selections.
This is the second straight year that Claeson has finished in the top five and received First Team All-Patriot League recognition. Batsu, a second-team selection in 2019, earned First Team All-Patriot League honors for the first time after she finished in the top 20 for the fourth time in five seasons.
Graduate student Veronica Kriss was 19th with a time of 22:22.0, followed by graduate student Madeline Bachmann (22:22.9) in 21st and and senior Angela Castronuovo (22:26.7) in 22nd. Sophomores Addie Marple (22:27.9) and Daisy Liljegren (22:28.0) crossed the line in 24th and 25th, respectively. Freshman Claire Wilson ran a personal-best time of 23:32.5, followed by sophomore Janelle Williams (23:40.5), freshman Sarah Hanifin (23:57.3) and junior Anna Kavanagh (24:46.0).
BU will return to competition on Friday, Nov. 12, when the Terriers race at the NCAA Northeast Regional at Franklin Park.
