Farrance Makes NHL Debut, Repeats as AHCA First Team All-American
April 9, 2021 | Men's Ice Hockey
On Thursday night in Detroit, Farrance became the 89th Terrier to play in the NHL as the defenseman dressed for Nashville in a 7-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings. He recorded a hit, a blocked shot and a plus-1 rating in 13:46 of ice time.
Farrance is the only player in the country to earn first-team All-America honors both last season and this season. He joins an elite group, becoming just the sixth BU defenseman to be a first-team selection multiple times as Matt Grzelcyk, Matt Gilroy, Vic Stanfield, Bob Brown and Tom Ross are the others. This marks the 14th time since 2000 that a BU defenseman has been named an All-American.
Joining Farrance on the East First Team was Boston College goaltender Spencer Knight, American International defenseman Brennan Kapcheck, Boston College forward Matt Boldy, Massachusetts forward Bobby Trivigno and Quinnipiac forward Odeen Tufto. The top team in the West was Minnesota goaltender Jack LaFontaine, Western Michigan defenseman Ronnie Attard, Michigan defenseman Cam York, Wisconsin forward Cole Caufield, North Dakota forward Shane Pinto and Minnesota forward Sampo Ranta.
A two-time Hockey First Team All-Star, Farrance's 1.45 points-per-game average ranked first nationally among defensemen this season and fourth overall. He was named Hockey East Player of the Month for January after putting up 14 points (4g, 10a) in just six contests. Farrance had five multi-point efforts in the first six games to get the Terriers off to a hot start as he tallied a goal in four straight wins from Jan. 9 to Jan. 22.
He signed a two-year, entry-level contract with Nashville on March 28.
