Coming in at No. 6, the Boston University student-athletes once again made a difference in their community, creating new social justice initiatives and continuing to foster an inclusive environment.
 
BU Student-Athletes of Color (SAOC) made incredible strides as the newest of the three student-athlete led groups for the athletic department under the Bloom Family Leadership Initiative. SAOC helped enhance social justice and inclusion activities by hosting biweekly discussions and spearheading several social media campaigns for Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Asian Pacific Islander Month and Juneteenth.
 
The Social Justice & Inclusion Committee was created ahead of the academic year, helping raise awareness and enhance knowledge that encourages progress across all social justice issues by student-athletes, staff, coaches and the BU community. The committee kicked off the school year with the "Be Counted. Be Heard. BU." campaign, challenging all eligible members of the athletic department and Terrier Nation to register to vote and complete the 2020 census.
 
BU was one of only 10 NCAA Division I institutions to achieve a perfect Athletic Equality Index (or AEI) score of 100 over the past year. The score is calculated by measuring LGBTQ+ inclusion policies and practices in NCAA athletic departments, providing a snapshot of how schools are supporting their student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans.
