Avila clocked in at 2:15.36, trimming more than three seconds her entry time and set the new Honduras record by nearly two full seconds. Avila placed 16th, and due to a scratch before the trials began, became the first Honduras swimmer to advance to the semifinals.
The 2019 graduate had another impressive performance in the semifinal round the following day, finishing at 2:16.38 to complete her Olympic experience.
