Men's Basketball Rolls to 81-62 Win at Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – With the help of 10 3-pointers and a strong defensive performance, the Boston University men's basketball team rolled to an 81-62 win at Lafayette on Wednesday night.
The Terriers (14-8, 5-4 PL) went 10-of-22 from behind the arc and held the Leopards to 4-of-21 (.190) shooting to claim their third straight victory. BU outscored Lafayette off turnovers, 17-9, and in second-chance opportunities, 13-4.
Graduate student Javante McCoy tallied a game-high 17 points to move up to No. 5 all-time in the program record book at 1,684 career points, while classmate Sukhmail Mathon posted 16 points, nine rebounds, career-tying five assists and career-high four steals to move up to No. 6 all-time with 743 boards. Senior Walter Whyte was one rebound shy of a double-double as well with 13 points, and senior Fletcher Tynen added 12 points.
Lafayette matched BU with four players in double figures, but the Terriers posted a 21-6 advantage in bench production. Kyle Jenkins led the Leopards with 15 points and five rebounds, while Neal Quinn recorded 13 points and six boards.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers started off cold, missing their first seven shots along with two attempts at the charity stripe, as Jenkins netted two free throws to give Lafayette an early 8-0 lead at 15:39.
- CJ Fulton extended the Leopards' advantage to 12-2 with a layup at 13:58 before the Terriers scored 15 straight.
- Sophomore Anthony Morales, Whyte and sophomore Caelan Jones all scored from behind the arc during the four-minute stretch of play.
- Jones followed McCoy's 3-pointer with a driving layup to give BU a 22-15 advantage with 8:14 left in the half.
- After Lafayette scored seven straight and kept the game tied, 24-24, at 4:47 on Fulton's layup, Whyte gave BU the lead for good on another trey.
- Tynen hit his first 3-pointer with 52 seconds left and added three free throws at 0.2 seconds for a 37-28 halftime lead.
- McCoy and Mathon opened the second stanza with back-to-back jumpers to put BU's lead into double digits for the rest of the game.
- Whyte flushed his third 3-pointer to put BU ahead, 57-38, at 11:56, and Mathon later gave the Terriers their largest advantage, 78-53, at 3:21 off a quick feed from Morales.
- All 15 available Terriers saw the court with seven hitting at least one 3-pointer.
- The Terriers shot 31-of-58 FG (.534) for their second highest field percentage of the season.
- BU netted at least 80 points in back-to-back conference games for the first time since posting wins against Army (81-59) and Loyola Maryland (85-53) in 2020.
- Tynen scored in double figures for the sixth time this season and second in conference play.
- Finishing with eight points, Morales drained multiple 3-pointers for the third time this season and first since scoring eight at Florida State on Nov. 24.
- BU moved to 17-8 all-time against Lafayette with its sixth road win in seven trips to the Kirby Sports Center.
- The Terriers will next host Colgate on Friday (Jan. 28) at 2 p.m.
- The game was moved up from Saturday due to the incoming weekend nor'easter.
- The Raiders won all five meetings last season, including a 77-69 victory in the Patriot League quarterfinals en route to the conference title.
