October 18, 2022 | Men's Soccer
BROOKLINE, Mass. – Senior Ryan Lee netted his second goal of the season two minutes into the second half, but it wasn't enough, as Northeastern rallied off a pair of set pieces to defeat the Boston University men's soccer team, 2-1, on Tuesday night at Parsons Field.
With the come-from-behind victory, the Huskies (4-8-3) improve to 2-2-3 at home, while the Terriers drop to 4-4-6 following their final non-conference game of the regular season.
Lee put BU ahead at 46:26 with a quick shot past Colby Hegarty on a through ball from senior Quinn Matulis, who earned his fourth assist of the year. Northeastern though found the equalizer at 61:50 after the Terriers were unable to clear a long throw-in and then scored the game winner at 85:53 with a quick shot off the Huskies' sixth corner.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman Diego Rived had a shot blocked at 1:45, and his second attempt following the corner kick went over the crossbar.
- The Huskies earned their first corner at 8:35 and forced junior Andrew Wike to make his first save two minutes later.
- Matulis followed sophomore Brian Hernandez's shot attempt with a low grounder that was saved by Hegarty at 15:58.
- Wike kept the game scoreless with his second stop with 12 seconds remaining in the first half.
- Needing 86 seconds in the second half, sophomore Daniel Kim sent a quick centering pass to Matulis, who found a slashing Lee for the 1-0 lead.
- Lee nearly doubled the lead in the 54th minute, but his shot attempt was a few inches too high from eight yards out and nailed the crossbar.
- Eight minutes later, the Huskies scored the equalizer with a long throw-in that was headed further into the box before deflecting off the head of a BU defender to the feet of Harry Sankey, who rifled a shot past Wike.
- Junior Matthew Boberg forced Hegarty's last save of the night at 83:21.
- The Huskies had two shots blocked in the 86th minute with the last one leading to a corner and then a one-touch shot by Fraser Bown for the 2-1 lead.
- BU was unable to mount its own rally in defeat.
- Matulis moved into a tie for first on the team at eight points with senior Colin Innes (4g) while grabbing the team lead at four assists.
- Lee became the third Terrier alongside Matulis and Innes to record multiple goals this season.
- Kim became the sixth Terrier to earn an assist and 11th overall to earn at least one point.
- Both Wike and Hegarty tallied three saves apiece, as the Huskies posted a 12-10 advantage in shots and 6-3 lead in corners.
- Northeastern improved to 5-7-1 all-time in home contests against the Terriers.
- The Terriers will return home and resume Patriot League play on Sunday (Oct. 23) at 1 p.m. against American.
- BU is on a four-game unbeaten streak following last year's 1-1 road draw and three wins featuring a combined score of 6-2.
