BOSTON – The Boston University men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete at the Patriot League Championships on Saturday at Bucknell's cross country course in Lewisburg, Pa. The women's 6K race will start at 10 a.m. followed by the men's 8K race at 11 a.m.
Â
The women's team looks to improve on last year's second place finish. Senior
Meghan Convery placed fifth in the 2021 championships with a time of 21:36.4, leading BU's returners. Grad students
Veronica Kriss,
Madeline Bachmann and
Angela Castronuovo, as well as sophomore
Daisy Liljegren, all placed in the top-25 runners last year.
Â
In the most recent 6K race at the Lehigh Paul Short Invite, all Terriers on the women's side ran to new personal best times. Liljegren led the Terriers at Lehigh and most recently at Virginia, making her the team's top finisher in each race she has competed in this season. She was named the Patriot League Runner of the Week after each of those races.
Â
On the men's side, BU aims to build upon their third-place finish in the 2021 season. Four returning Terriers placed in the top-25, led by junior Matt Mason in eighth. Senior
Kevin Murphy and grad student
Marcel Aubry crossed the line in the top-15 while senior
Foster Malleck recorded a top-25 finish.Â
Â
The most recent 8K race for the Terriers took place at Virginia in which freshmen
Freddy Collins and
Parker Schneider led the BU squad. Both Collins and Schneider were named Patriot League Rookies of the Week during the season with Collins earning the honor most recently and Schneider receiving the nod twice before. At the Paul Short Invite, the men's team notched 19 personal-best times in the 8K. Mason crossed the finish line first for BU, followed by Schneider, Malleck, Collins and Aubry.Â
Â
After the Patriot League Championships, BU will head to Van Cortland Park, N.Y. for the NCAA Regional Championship.Â
