BU Posts 167-133 Win over UMass in Home Opener

BOSTON - The Boston University women's swimming & diving team earned a 167-133 dual victory over Massachusetts in its home opener on Saturday afternoon at the FitRec Competition Pool.
Freshman Haley Newman made her home debut a memorable one, winning three events, while sophomore Ashley Scafetta took first in a pair of events.
Four juniors - Lara Mitchell, Sumi Cameron, Sydney Sorbello and Clarissa Hoyt - each one won event each.
Newman swept the butterfly events and added a win in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:08.33. Her 200 butterfly time of 2:04.07 placed her first and her winning time in the 100 butterfly was 56.54 seconds.
Scafetta turned in the top time in the 1,000 freestyle at 10:33.96 before later finishing first in the 100 breaststroke at 1:06.34.
Mitchell won the 100 backstroke (56.26), Sorbello was first to the wall in the 50 free (24.16), Hoyt was tops in the 200 breaststroke (2:27.56) and Cameron posted a high score of 256.88 in the 3-meter dive.
Mitchell and Sorbello teamed up with sophomores Blythe Brenner and Sasha Ramey to take first in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.85.
The Terriers will return to action next Saturday (Nov. 5) when they host Providence at 1:30 p.m.
