ATHENS, Ga. – After claiming an 8-4 win over 2021 CAA runner-up Delaware, the Boston University softball team fell at No. 13 Georgia, 8-1, to conclude the second day of the Red & Black Showcase with a doubleheader split.
The Terriers (3-5) broke a 3-3 deadlock against the Blue Hens (4-3) with senior
Emily Gant's RBI triple in the third and senior Nicole Amodi's two-out, two-run homer in the fourth. Junior
Allison Boaz (2-1) earned the last 12 outs in the circle to collect her second win of the weekend. The Bulldogs (7-2) struck early three runs through two innings and then put the game away with a five-run fifth to avenge Friday night's 6-1 loss to BU.
GAME 1: BU 8, Delaware 4
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Hens struck first, collecting back-to-back singles and a walk before recording an RBI ground out against junior Lizzy Avery for the 1-0 advantage.
- BU started strong in the bottom half on junior Caitlin Coker's walk and graduate student Jen Horita's infield single, but Delaware's defense managed to turn a double play with a diving catch in shallow right.
- Sophomore Lauren Keleher led off the second with a walk, and though they did not record a hit, the Terriers came away with three runs after Delaware made two throwing errors.
- Both senior Emily Gant and freshman Kennedy Ryman had RBI grounders before Horita grabbed the 3-1 lead off a RBI sac fly to right.
- The Blue Hens responded in the third with a lead-off double, a walk and RBI single to pull within one.
- BU allowed a passed ball to let the third run score, but the Terriers got out of the jamby throwing a runner out at third after she tried to reach the base from first.
- Amodio began the third with a walk and eventually scored on Gant's RBI triple to left center.
- Boaz replaced Avery in the circle to start the fourth and ran into trouble with a double, walk and RBI single, but prevented further damage with two ground outs.
- The Blue Hens committed a third error in the bottom of the fourth, allowing Horita and junior Audrey Sellers to score.
- With two outs in the sixth, sophomore Kayla Roncin got hit by a pitch in the sixth and scored when Amodio blasted a 3-2 pitch down the right field line for the 8-4 lead.
- Boaz retired the side to seal the victory.
GAME 2: #13/#18 Georgia 8, BU 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After retiring the side to start the game, Georgia showed great discipline at the plate against Boaz, earning a ball on three straight two-out 3-2 pitches following a lead-off single to grab a 1-0 lead.
- Amodio started the second with a walk of her own before taking second on Keleher's sac bunt, but the Bulldogs ended the threat with a pair of strikeouts.
- Georgia followed in the bottom half with a walk and bunt single that led to both runners scoring due to a throwing error and Gant replacing Boaz in the circle.
- The Terriers struck back with junior Audrey Sellers doubling down the left field line and scoring on Coker's RBI single through the right side.
- The Bulldogs pulled away in the fifth with five runs off five combined hits against Gant and Avery with a lead-off homer and three-run blast for the 8-1 advantage.
- BU tried to rally in the sixth on an error and Keleher's single to put runners at the corners, but the Bulldogs ended the contest earning five straight outs to avenge Friday's loss.

- BU will conclude the Red & Black Showcase on Sunday (Feb. 20) at 10:30 a.m. against Delaware.
- The Blue Hens followed their loss to the Terriers with a 3-2 loss to Purdue.
