Timmy Ley matched his career high with seven points and junior
Vince D'Alto added six points of his own to help lead the Boston University men's lacrosse team to a 16-7 win over UMass on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
BU improved to 3-0 to start the season thanks to a complete team effort. Offensively, Ley tallied four goals and three assists while D'Alto had three goals and three helpers. Sophomore

Roy Meyer led BU with four caused turnovers and added three ground balls while junior

Dane DeGoler each had four ground balls and one caused turnover. Senior goalkeeper
Matt Garber was excellent in the cage, making 10 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hilburn got the Terriers on the board first at 10:27 of the first quarter when he converted on an inside feed from D'Alto.
- Cates made it 2-0 just over a minute later with a great individual effort.
- Ley then wowed the crowd with a highlight-reel goal at 8:36. With his back to the net, Ley shot the ball over his left shoulder and past the goalkeeper.
- UMass got a goal back at 6:47, but D'Alto made it 4-1 heading into the second quarter.
- Baugher notched his first goal of the season 4:35 into the second stanza to make it a 5-1 game, but the Minutemen answered with two straight goals to make it a 5-3 game.
- That's as close as they got, however, as the Terriers scored the next seven goals, including the final four goals of the first half.
- Ley notched his third goal of the day just nine seconds into the third quarter to make it a 10-3 game.
- Carson then went coast-to-coast for his first goal of the campaign just 49 seconds later. He caused a turnover, then picked up the ground ball and raced into the UMass box before uncorking a shot past the goalkeeper.
- Quadrino completed the seven-goal run to make it 12-3 before UMass notched two goals in a row to make it 12-5 after three quarters.
- BU added four more goals in the fourth quarter, with Ley, Quadrino, D'Alto and Cates finding the back of the net.
- Perfetto assisted on the final two strikes of the contest.
- Freshman Will Barnes entered the cage for BU with 2:50 remaining in regulation and made two saves to keep UMass scoreless during his first NCAA appearance.
GAME NOTES
- Ley extended his goal streak to 25 straight games while Perfetto and D'Alto extended their point streaks to 20 and 18 games, respectively.
- Ley's other seven-point game was a seven-goal effort at Holy Cross last season.
- This was Meyer's third game with four caused turnovers; he last did it against Colgate on May 4, 2021.
- Both Hilburn and Baugher notched their first goal of the season.
- Junior Conor Calderone was 12-of-24 at the faceoff X and collected a career-high and game-high six ground balls.
- Freshman Ben Ferrara made his collegiate debut and won both faceoffs he took.
- Perfetto was great on the ride, causing two turnovers.
- BU forced six failed clears against a UMass team that entered the day with the fourth-best clearing percentage in the country.
- BU was 1-for-2 on EMOs and went 4-for-6 in man-down situations.
