
Terriers Qualify Largest NCAA Prelim Contingent Since 2011

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Boston University track & field teams will be well-represented this week at the NCAA East Preliminary Meet as 13 Terriers will compete among the nation's best starting Wednesday (May 25) at the Haugh Track & Field Complex.
Nine Terriers will compete in a combined 10 individual events in addition to the men's 4x100, comprising the largest BU contingent of NCAA prelim qualifiers since 2011. All 13 will making their NCAA prelim debuts.
The men will compete on Wednesday and Friday while the women take center stage on Thursday and Saturday.
Sophomore Daisy Liljegren qualified in both the 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs while freshman Toby Makoyawo will compete in the 100-meter dash and the 4x100 meter relay.
They are the highest-ranked Terriers heading into the meet as Makoyawo had the 15th-best time in the East in the 100 at 10.12 while Liljegren's time of 34:04.89 in the 10,000 ranks 26th.
One other BU athlete is ranked in the top 30 heading into the meet as graduate student Corinne Batsu is 30th in the 10,000-meter run (34:08.44).
Freshman Kiana Lino will be the first BU thrower on the women's side to compete in the NCAA prelims since Natalie Grant in 2003 when she takes part in the shot put on Thursday.
In addition to Liljegren and Batsu, two other distance runners will represent the BU women's team as senior Andrea Claeson will compete in the 5,000 meter run and classmate Meghan Convery qualified for the 3,000-meter steeplechase in her first season competing in the event.
Another senior, Emma Montoya, earned a spot in the 400-meter hurdles after going under the minute-mark at the Michael Johnson Invitational.
Makoyawo and Claeson also qualified in the 200-meter dash and 1,500-meter run, respectively, but each elected to focus on their other events.
Two athletes on the men's side qualified via their final chance of the season. Thanks to his mark of 2.08 meters at the New England Championships, senior Kasim Cisse will be competing in the men's high jump and junior Foster Malleck qualified for the 1,500-meter run after posting a strong time at the Princeton Elite Invitational (3:42.05).
The 4x100 relay consists of three freshmen – Makoyawo, Matt Spicer and Leon Christian – and sophomore Uchenna Nwosu along with sophomore alternate Max Gorriaran.
Malleck will kick things off for the Terriers on Wednesday when he takes part in the first round of the 1,500 at 2:30 p.m. ET. Right after that race, Makoyawo will compete in the first round of the 100 at 3 p.m.
