This is the third time that Polley has been named the top Division I coach in New England, having also won the award in 2017 and 2019. The 2022 Patriot League Coach of the Year led the Terriers to their first-ever conference regular-season and tournament titles after being picked to finish fifth in the league's preseason poll. Polley also led the Terriers to their first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Under Polley's guidance in 2022, the Terriers led the nation with an average of 12.06 caused turnovers per game, marking the third time in the past four seasons that they finished the year ranked first in that category. They were also the third-ranked riding team in the country, holding opponents to a .775 clearing percentage. In addition, BU was fifth in the NCAA in ground balls per game (36.35) and boasted a top-20 defense for the fourth time in the last five completed seasons.
An Honorable Mention All-American, D'Alto had one of the best seasons by a Terrier attackman in program history. He scored a career-high 45 goals and dished out a career-best 30 assists for a career-high 75 points in 17 games, notching a point in all but one contest. D'Alto is the fourth Terrier in program history to record 70 or more points in a single season. A First Team All-Patriot League selection, D'Alto posted 16 multi-point games and scored all goal in all 16 of those contests. He had a record-setting performance on March 26 against Lafayette when he tallied seven goals and seven assists for a program-record 14 points, becoming just the eighth Division I men's lacrosse player to notch at least 14 points and only the third player in 25 years to do so.
Garber, the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year, finished the year with a .536 save percentage and a 10.41 goals-against average. Additionally, Garber was an integral part in the success of the Terriers' impressive 10-man ride. In conference play, Garber boasted a 9.32 goals-against average and a .581 save percentage en route to his 7-1 league record. He averaged 11.76 saves per game and held opponents to 10 goals or fewer on nine different occasions. In addition to his on-field excellence, Garber won the E. Ray Speare Award as BU's top male scholar-athlete in the senior class and was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team.
A First Team All-American, Meyer proved to be the best LSM in the entire country in 2022. He finished his impressive season with 58 caused turnovers and 81 ground balls. His 58 caused turnovers is the most by any NCAA player since 2013 and the second-most by any NCAA player since it became an official stat in 2010. His 81 ground balls is the most ever by a Terrier defender and ranks seventh all-time in the program's single-season record book. Meyer also tallied the first four points of his career, securing one goal and three assists. In addition to his success at LSM, Meyer showed his versatility by starting four games at close defense while Morrison was out with an injury. The Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year saved his best for last, totaling 29 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers over the last five games to help BU secure its first-ever conference regular-season and tournament titles.
A First Team All-Patriot League honoree, Morrison quarterbacked one of the best close defense units in the conference this season, starting in 12 of his 13 appearances. He finished the year having totaled 27 ground balls and a career-high 19 caused turnovers, including five caused turnovers in three postseason contests. In his nine regular-season starts, the Terrier defense allowed an average of 9.0 goals per game. Morrison and the BU defense was even better in league play, as he helped the Terriers hold their opponents to just 8.6 goals per game in his five conference starts.
Calderone was fantastic at the faceoff X in his first season as a Terrier. He closed the regular season ranked 12th in the country and second in the Patriot League with a .573 win percentage en route to earning Second Team All-Patriot League accolades. Calderone gathered a career-high 98 ground balls, the third best single-season mark in program history. He also matched the NCAA record for faceoff wins in a game, going 32-of-34 against Lafayette and collecting a conference- and program-record 21 ground balls.
Cates, a First Team All-Patriot League selection, was in the midst of a sensational senior season before being sidelined by an injury in early April. The dynamic midfielder set new career highs with 21 goals and 29 points, with his eight assists matching his career high from 2019. Cates started all 11 games in which he appeared and turned in eight multi-point efforts in 2022, including a four-goal effort against then-No. 19 Bryant on Feb. 19 and five-point performances against both Colgate and Lafayette.
