Four Terriers Compete on Final Day of NCAA Prelims
May 28, 2022 | Women's Track & Field
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The fourth and final day of the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary meet featured four members of the Boston University women's team with sophomore Daisy Liljegren leading the way by turning in the third-fastest 5,000-meter time in program history.
Sophomore Daisy Liljegren and senior Andrea Claeson competed in the 5k as BU was one of eight schools in the nation to have at least two competitors at the event on Saturday.
Claeson placed eighth in the first heat in a time of 16:06.47 before Liljegren ran in an impressive second heat that featured the top six times, all of which broke the facility record. The sophomore finished ninth in the heat at 16:01.96, the fastest time by a BU woman since 2013 when Katie Matthews set the school record at 15:44.19.
Senior Emma Montoya took part in the quarterfinal round of the 400-meter hurdles on Saturday and finished 19th with a time of 59.13.
The first Terrier to compete on Saturday was senior Meghan Convery, who ended up leaving the 3,000-meter steeplechase early. It marked the end of a great season for Convery, who had never participated in the event until two months ago.
Liljegren will be BU's lone competitor at the NCAA Championships, as she qualified for the 10,000-meter race on Thursday with a 10th-place finish.
