Weimar Highlights Women’s Basketball Preseason All-PL Honors
October 12, 2023 | Women's Basketball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Fresh off a campaign where she was honored as the program's first Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, Boston University women's basketball senior forward Caitlin Weimar has been named the 2023-24 Patriot League Preseason Player and Defensive Player of the Year, the conference announced on Thursday morning.
In addition to her major awards, Weimar also earned a spot on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team. BU was also projected to finish second in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, garnering two first-place votes and 141 points.
Weimar becomes the second-straight Terrier to capture Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year recognition, joining former teammate Sydney Johnson (CAS'23) from the 2022-23 campaign. She also joins former teammate Maren Durant (SAR'23) as the second-consecutive Terrier to be selected as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year.
With the inception of the Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year award prior to the 2022-23 season, Weimar is the first-ever Patriot League student-athlete to garner both accolades in the same year. BU has earned the first two Defensive Player of the Year awards.
Weimar comes off a career year in 2022-23, where she led the Terriers with 15.5 points per game (most for a returning Patriot League student-athlete), 10.0 rebounds per game, a .597 field goal percentage, and 51 blocks. She became the second Terrier in program history, joining Debbie Miller-Palmore, to average a double-double across a full season. Her .597 clip was the second-highest by a Terrier in a single season.
The Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. native became the program's first Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year honoree, and second to receive the conference's top defensive accolade. Weimar was the fourth-different Terrier to be selected First Team All-Patriot League.
Entering the 2023-24 season, Weimar ranks second in program history with 9.4 rebounds per game in a BU uniform and third with a .550 field goal percentage. Spanning her collegiate career, she has recorded 870 points on 53.6 percent shooting, 656 rebounds, and 128 career blocks.
BU was picked second in the Patriot League Preseason Poll for the third time since the start of the 2020-21 season. The Terriers have finished top-four in the Patriot League in the last four seasons, including the team's first Patriot League regular season championship in 2023.
Holy Cross, the 2023 Patriot League champion, was slated to finish first in the preseason poll, notching 160 points and 16 first-place votes. The Preseason All-Patriot League Team featured student-athletes from five-different schools.
The Terriers begin their 49th varsity season on Monday (Nov. 6), hosting UMass Lowell at Case Gym at 6 p.m.
