BOSTON – With a trip to its seventh Patriot League Championship match on the line, the fourth-seeded Boston University women's soccer program visits No. 2 Bucknell in the semifinal round on Thursday (Nov. 2). Opening kick is set for 7 p.m.
BU (7-6-6) is in the semifinals for the 10th time in 11 seasons as a Patriot League member. BU's record in the semifinals is 6-2-1, with its most recent victory coming in 2021.
Bucknell (11-3-4) hosts its third Patriot League semifinal round in a row in its quest for its third Patriot League title in as many years.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU advanced to the semifinals after a 2-2 draw over No. 5 Lehigh, triumphing 2-1 in penalty kicks.
- Senior Kayla Ross tallied her first collegiate goal in her 80th-career match in the first half, while sophomore Giulianna Gianino leveled the score on a penalty kick in the 78th minute.
- Junior goalkeeper Celia Braun made three stops in the penalty kick shootout to vault the Terriers into the semifinals.
- On Wednesday (Nov. 1), Gianino and junior Morgan Fagan were named Academic All-Patriot League selections, marking the second-straight year BU had multiple student-athletes represented on the team.
- Thursday is BU's sixth Patriot League Semifinal away from home. The Terriers are 2-1-2 in those matches so far.
- Those wins came in 2014 and 2016. BU went to shootouts in 2013 and 2022, winning the former.
- Gianino leads the team with seven goals, 18 points, and 64 shots. All three rank top-five in the Patriot League.
- BU's sophomore class has accounted for 20 of the team's 30 goals this season.
- Braun is tied with Christina Reuter and Janie Reilly for third in program history with 147 career saves.
SCOUTING BUCKNELL
- The Bison captured the second seed in the Patriot League Tournament with 18 points on a 5-1-3 league record.
- Bucknell is 5-0-1 since the start of October. Its lone draw came against BU.
- Senior Jenna Hall and junior Teresa Deda were named the Patriot League Goalkeeper and Midfielder of the Year, respectively.
- They, along with senior Brooke Tracey, garnered First Team All-Patriot League accolades. Tracey was chosen as the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
- Bucknell was the second seed in their Patriot League title run last year, defeating Army West Point in penalty kicks 3-1 following a scoreless match.
SERIES HISTORY
- Thursday marks the 16th all-time meeting between BU and Bucknell in a series that began in 2013.
- This will be the sixth postseason matchup between the Terriers and Bison, and the third in as many years. Bucknell is 3-1-1 in those contests.
- Though BU is just 1-4-3 on the road against the Bison, the Terriers have played to a draw in the last three meetings.
- Last year's semifinal clash featured a scoreless draw, but Bucknell advanced on penalty kicks, 4-3. Braun and Gretchen Bennett combined for 11 saves.
- Both sides played to a 3-3 draw in Lewisburg, Pa. in the regular season match back on Oct. 14. Fagan potted two goals, while sophomore Margy Porta notched her first as a Terrier in the 78th minute for the equalizer.
