BOULDER, Colo. – Senior Caitlin Weimar posted 16 points and 12 rebounds, junior Alex Giannaros drained three triples for 16 points, and the Boston University women's basketball program went toe-to-toe with No. 7 Colorado before the Buffaloes pulled away in an 85-55 result on Tuesday evening at the CU Events Center.

The Terriers (5-2) sported a one-possession lead on the Buffaloes (7-1) late in the third quarter, and trailed 55-51 heading into the final frame. However, Colorado outscored BU 30-4 in the stanza to seal the decision.

Weimar shot a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe, while Giannaros shot 50 percent from the field while chipping in three rebounds and three assists.

Frida Formann led all scorers with 22 points, hitting her 1,000th-career point in the effort. Aaronette Vonleh added 18 points, with Jaylyn Sherrod posting 14 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

BU sported brief leads of 5-4 on Giannaros' left-corner three, then 7-6 on a second-chance putback from Weimar on the right block midway through the first quarter.
Senior Kelsi Mingo drained a three of her own from the left wing to put the Terriers ahead 16-14 with 56 seconds left in the opening frame.
Sophomore Anete Adler made a bucket on BU's first possession in the second quarter, but an 13-0 Buffaloes run over five minutes that featured nine points from Formann, gave Colorado the 29-18 edge.
Weimar scored four in a row on a layup from sophomore Anastasiia Semenova's pass and two free throws, but the Buffaloes countered with six-consecutive points, including a Quay Miller triple, to replenish Colorado's lead to 35-22.
BU closed the second quarter on a 5-0 run, featuring Giannaros overcoming multiple defenders for a driving layup before the buzzer to make it 35-27 Buffaloes at halftime.
The Terriers closed the deficit to three on multiple instances, with freshman Audrey Ericksen canning a baseline jumper and senior Sophie Beneventine hitting a long basket just inside the arc. The latter made it 39-36 Colorado.
Giannaros' behind-the-back crossover on the left wing set up a three-pointer for the junior to knot the game at 41-41 with 5:41 left in the third quarter.
Freshman Aoibhe Gormley stuck a triple, then fed Adler underneath the rim for a pump-fake that handed the Terriers a 48-46 advantage at the 3:51 mark.
BU went ahead 50-47 on Weimar's foul shots with 2:27 on the clock, but Colorado rattled off an extended 24-1 run that stretched to the 4:38 mark of the fourth quarter.
The Terriers did not make a shot from the field in the last period until freshman Inés Monteagudo Pardo's jumper on the final possession of the game.

STATS

BU shot just under 42 percent in the contest. In the third quarter, BU was 7-for-10 (70 percent).
Colorado was held under its season average in shooting at 44.9 percent.
The Terriers made 14 of their 18 foul shots.
The Buffaloes registered 42 points in the paint, and scored 27 points off 27 Terrier turnovers.
Colorado was also advantageous on the glass, 36-31.

Weimar snagged her fourth double-double of the season, 28th as a Terrier, and 31st in her collegiate career.
In three-plus seasons, she has 981 career points.
Giannaros now has 14 career contests with 15 or more points.
She has made multiple three-pointers in five of her seven appearances in 2023-24.
BU falls to 0-6 all-time against Pac-12 opponents.
Colorado improves to 2-0 in the all-time series. Tuesday was the first game in the rivalry played on a home court.
