Weimar, Monteagudo Capture Patriot League Weekly Honors
December 26, 2023 | Women's Basketball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Thanks to their efforts in an overtime victory over crosstown rival Northeastern, Boston University women's basketball senior Caitlin Weimar and freshman Inés Monteagudo Pardo were selected as the Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for the week of Dec. 26, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.
For Weimar, this marks her second Player of the Week award this season, and her fifth as a Terrier. She joins Lehigh's Ella Stemmer as the lone Patriot League student-athletes to earn the distinction multiple times this year. Monteagudo picks up her first-career Patriot League accolade, becoming the first Terrier to earn the award since teammate Alex Giannaros on Jan. 3, 2022.
This is the first instance since Jan. 3, 2022 that BU has won both Patriot League honors in the same week, when Giannaros and Sydney Johnson garnered the recognition.
Weimar flirted with a triple-double in the Terriers' 83-80 overtime victory over the Huskies on Dec. 22, posting game-highs of 26 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists. She made 10 of her 17 shots from the field, and scored 10 points in the second quarter to help BU erase a 17-point deficit.
Monteagudo dropped career-bests of 15 points and five assists to just one turnover off the bench. Three of her five field goals came from beyond the arc as she dropped eight points in the second quarter alone.
As of writing, Weimar paces the Patriot League with seven double-doubles, tied for 10th in the nation, and a .559 field goal percentage. She also ranks top three in the conference in scoring (18.5 points per game – third), rebounding (10.0 boards per game – second), free throw percentage (.765 – second), and blocks (1.5 per game – third).
On the season, Monteagudo has scored 25 points across 10 games. Averaging 8.1 minutes per contest, she has drained five of her 12 three-point attempts, good for 41.7 percent.
BU returns to action on Wednesday (Jan. 3, 2024), hosting Navy for its Patriot League opener. Opening tip is slated for 2 p.m.
