NEW HAVEN, Conn. – No. 73 Boston University women's tennis (11-4, 1-0 PL) defeated Yale (8-9, 0-0 IVY) in a 5-2 decision on Saturday. BU earned the doubles point and picked up four additional wins in singles to earn its first victory over Yale since 2008.
Â
In doubles, BU only needed one win as Yale could not provide a third doubles pair to play. Yale grabbed the win at the top of the lineup, but the Terriers were able to control the story in the No. 2 spot. Sophomore
Michelle Kleynerman and grad student
Shelly Yaloz took down their opponents 6-4 to give the Terriers the point headed into singles.Â
Â
BU earned an automatic win in the No. 6 spot because Yale could not provide a full lineup and the Terriers led 2-0 to start singles. Junior
Victoria Carlsten got things started with a dominant 6-0, 6-3 win in the No. 3 spot to bring BU closer to the victory. Shortly thereafter, freshman
Emily Zhao sealed the deal for the Terriers in the No. 5 spot. She won 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the match for the second time this season.Â
Â
Also winning for BU was junior
Kaitlin Tan. She forced a super tiebreak after splitting the first two sets 3-6, 6-3 and earned a 1-0 tiebreak win in the No. 4 spot. Yale earned wins in the Nos. 1 and 2 spots on either side of Tan's point to bring the final score to BU 5, Yale 2.Â
Â
The Terriers will be back in action on Sunday (March 26) when they travel to UConn for a 10 a.m. match.
