Three Terriers Earn Patriot League Weekly Awards
February 12, 2024 | Men's Lacrosse
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Three members of the Boston University men's lacrosse team earned weekly awards from the Patriot League, as announced on Monday.
Junior Will Barnes was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, graduate student Vince D'Alto was selected as Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week and graduate student Patrick Morrison was chosen as Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week. All three were instrumental in the Terriers' pair of victories to open the 2024 campaign.
Barnes was outstanding in his first collegiate start, making 15 of his 18 saves in the first half to help BU defeat Saint Joseph's, 14-10, last Tuesday. Barnes is one of four players since 2019 (and potentially further back) to record 18 or more saves in his first collegiate start, and he did so against a Saint Joseph's team that returned its top three scorers from last year's top-10 offense. He followed that with a 10-save performance in an 18-8 victory over Vermont. Barnes ranks 10th nationally in save percentage (.609) and 12th nationally in goals-against average (9.50).
D'Alto totaled 10 goals and four assists for 14 points across two games, including a seven-goal, two-assist outburst against Vermont. In that game, D'Alto became the program's all-time leading point producer, surpassing Timmy Ley (215 points) to finish the day with 220 career points. In the opener against St. Joe's, D'Alto scored three goals and added two assists for five points. D'Alto is second in the nation with an average of 5.0 goals per game and is fifth in the country in points per game (7.0).
Morrison was a monster on the defensive end for the Terriers to help BU end the week ninth in the country in scoring defense and 10th in the nation on the ride. He caused four turnovers and gathered two ground balls against Vermont after beginning the year with three caused turnovers, four ground balls and one assist against Saint Joseph's. Morrison ranks third in the nation in caused turnovers per game (3.5) and has also averaged 3.0 ground balls per game.
BU, which rose to No. 15 in the Inside Lacrosse media poll and No. 20 in the USILA coaches poll, will host Bryant on Friday night at Nickerson Field. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
