TRUMBULL, Conn. – After claiming a tightly-contested doubles point, the Boston University men's tennis earned three singles points in straight sets en route to a 5-2 victory at Sacred Heart Sunday evening.
With a perfect weekend following Saturday's win at Fordham, the Terriers improve to 3-2, as the Pioneers dropped to 0-5.
In doubles play, senior
Johann Sajonz and sophomore
Alejandro Licea cruised to a 6-1 win at line 2. The Pioneers broke late for a 7-5 victory on court No. 1, but the Terriers pulled out the doubles point with sophomores
Corey Craig and
Jakob Esterowitz edging Sacred Heart in the tiebreaker for a 7-6(3) win in the No. 3 slot.
Craig carried the momentum to a 6-3, 6-3 at line 1 in singles action. Licea was also unbeaten on the day with a 6-3, 7-5, victory on court No. 2, and senior
Jonah Dickson added the other straight-sets win in a 7-6(4), 7-5 decision in the No. 5 slot.
Freshman
Gustavs Dambins captured the fifth point by holding off Darius Eftekhar in a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(3) win at line 6.
Junior
Cole Knutsen rallied from a set down in the No. 3 match after dropping a tiebreaker to force a third set but ultimately came. up just short, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3. The Pioneers earned their other singles point with a 6-3, 6-2, win in the No. 4 slot.
The Terriers will next compete in a doubleheader on Saturday (Feb. 10), first visiting MIT at 1 p.m. and then facing Stonehill at the Waltham Athletic Club with a 6:45 p.m. start time.
