No. 3 Lightweight Rowing Heads To No. 4 Stanford On Sunday
May 11, 2024 | Women's Lightweight Rowing
BOSTON – Wrapping up its final dual race in the spring before June's IRA National Championship Regatta, the No. 3 Boston University lightweight rowing program heads to the west coast for three races against No. 4 Stanford on Sunday (May 12) at Redwood Shores.
Sunday will mark the first dual race between the programs at Redwood Shores. BU and Stanford square off for the second-consecutive year after the two teams raced on the Charles River back on May 6, 2023. The Terriers triumphed by 10 seconds in the Lightweight 4 race, while the Cardinal won the Lightweight 8 race by five seconds.
The Terriers return to the water after capturing the Konrad Ulbrich Team Trophy for the third time in program history at the Eastern Sprints on May 5. Five of BU's six crews finished in first, including the Lightweight 4+ and 2x to help the Scarlet and White earn 45 team points, outlasting Princeton by one point.
The Cardinal recently swept the Varsity 8+, 4+, and Double at last week's WIRA Championships, earning first place in all six preliminary and finals races. In dual races this year, Stanford has topped No. 6 Wisconsin and earned a V4 victory over top-ranked Princeton.
At last year's IRA Championship, BU was the runner-up with a pair on bronze medals in the V4 and 2x. Stanford was sixth, but captured second place in the V8 behind the national-champion Tigers.
Following Sunday's races, the Terriers will travel to Lake Mercer for the 2024 IRA National Championship Regatta, which takes place from May 31 to June 2.
