The Boston University men's lacrosse team will continue its quest for a second conference title in three years when the Terriers travel to top-seeded and host Army West Point in a Patriot League semifinal contest on Friday at Michie Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
TOURNAMENT HISTORY
- The Terriers have qualified for the semifinals in all but one of their seven tournament appearances, though they've only made one trip to the title game, winning it all in 2022.
- BU is 6-5 all-time in the conference tournament.
- This is the first time BU has been the No. 4 seed; the Terriers were No. 3 in 2017 and 2019 and No. 6 in 2018.
- The 2021 Patriot League Tournament did not employ the traditional structure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers advanced to Friday's semifinal thanks to an 18-17, triple-overtime victory over Colgate at Nickerson on Tuesday night.
- Junior Brenden Kelly's fourth goal of the game with 2:13 remaining in the third overtime off a feed from graduate student Louis Perfetto.
- Perfetto, who earned a spot on the USILA D1 Team of the Week for a third time, paced the Terrier offense with nine points on five goals and four assists.
- He has tallied 17 points (8g, 9a) over the past two games and leads the Patriot League with 86 points (43g, 43a).
- Graduate student Vince D'Alto, who notched three goals and one assist in Tuesday's win, is second in the conference with 68 points (38g, 30a).
- Kelly is second on the squad with 39 goals and has notched a goal in 14 straight games.
- BU enters Friday ranked third in the country in both caused turnovers per game (10.87) and opponent clear percentage (.771).
- The Terriers have been excellent on the ride over the last two games, holding Colgate to a 23-of-32 (.719) clearing performance on Tuesday and an 18-of-27 (.667) clearing percentage last Friday.Â
- BU enters Friday ranked seventh in the NCAA and first in the Patriot League with an average of 8.93 assists per game.
HISTORY AGAINSTÂ ARMY
- BU is 5-8 all-time against Army West Point, including three straight wins.
- That includes a 14-9 victory at Nickerson Field on March 22.
- BU is 2-3 at Michie Stadium, but did win in its last visit there, a 12-11 victory to clinch last year's regular-season title.Â
- This is the third meeting between the two schools in the conference tournament.
- Army bested BU, 10-7, in the 2017 semifinals and the Terriers defeated the Black Knights, 14-10, in the 2022 title game.
SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS
- Army is 11-2 overall and won its first regular-season title since 2010 thanks to a 6-2 PL record.
- The Black Knights placed six players on All-Patriot League teams, with five on the first team.
- First Team All-PL attackman Jackson Eicher leads Army in both goals (35) and points (54) while fellow first-teamer Reese Burek has totaled 25 goals and a team-high 25 assists for 50 points.
- PL Offensive Player of the Year Evan Plunkett totaled 46 points (28g, 18a).
- PL Defensive Player of the Year AJ Pilate leads Army with 23 caused turnovers and has also gathered 32 ground balls.
- PL Faceoff Specialist of the Year Will Coletti is second in the NCAA with a .636 win percentage and is also second in the country in ground balls per game (9.25).
- Sophomore goalkeeper Sean Byrne, who did not start against BU on March 22, leads Army with a 10.68 goals-against average and a .543 save percentage in nine appearances.
- Byrne has started each of the Black Knights' last five games, going 4-1 in that stretch.
