Senior Daniel Kim netted the equalizer for his first goal of the season and junior Ben Alexander earned five saves to help the Terriers (0-0-4) extend their home unbeaten streak to 16 contests (11-0-5). The Gaels (1-2-1) struck first at 40:06 and held the lead for 31 minutes before the first-ever meeting between the two programs ended in a tie.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alexander earned his first save positioning himself near the right post to smother a SMC header set up by a free kick from 30 yards out at 9:32.
- Junior Damola Salami nearly put the Terriers on the scoreboard in the 14th minute with a hard grounder that just hit the far post.
- Salami had another opportunity 12 minutes later when he flicked a shot while under pressure over the crossbar.
- The Gaels entered the locker room with the lead thanks to David Christensen attempting a low shot that went off the leg of a sliding BU defender into the back of the net.
- Kim tied the game at 71:17 by collecting a pass from junior Diego Rived and and dribbling around a defender to set up a 25-yard blast that sailed over a leaping Sam Bentley.
- With the score tied, the game's intensity rose and featured a combined six cards over the final 10 minutes with the Gaels collecting two red cards.
- Alexander added two more saves in quick succession shortly after the first awarded red card during a scramble in the box to preserve the draw.
- Playing all 45 minutes in the second, Kim has now netted a goal in each of his three seasons at BU, as he became the third Terrier to score this fall.
- Earning his third career assist, Rived joined Alexander as the only two Terriers to play all 90 minutes.
- SMC finished with an 8-6 advantage in shots and 5-4 lead in corner kicks.
- BU hosted its first West Coast opponent in 22 years.
- BU will remain home and next face Santa Clara on Sunday (Sept. 8) at 6 p.m.
- The squads will meet for the second time ever and first since a 2007 matchup hosted by Providence that saw the Broncos prevail, 3-0.
