Men's Basketball Outmuscles Holy Cross in 69-59 Victory on National TV

BOSTON – Highlighted by senior Malcolm Chimezie's first career double-double, the Boston University men's basketball completed a Turnpike Trophy doubleheader sweep over Holy Cross with a 69-59 victory Monday night on the CBS Sports Network.

With their seventh straight home win, the Terriers improve to 11-11 and 5-4 in Patriot League play, while the Crusaders drop to 11-11 (3-6 PL). BU won the battle at the boards, 43-29, and outscored HC in second-chance opportunities, 16-8, while adding a 15-5 advantage in made free throws. The win came shortly after the women finished strong in a 52-49 triumph to help the department increase its advantage in the Turnpike Trophy all-sports competition to a dominating score of 10.5-0.5.

With six of the Terriers' season-high 17 offensive rebounds, Chimezie tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds for BU's first double-double of the season, while sophomore Michael McNair hauled in a personal-best seven boards alongside 13 points. Sophomore Kyrone Alexander recorded a game-high 15 points, and graduate student Miles Brewster added 10 points.

DeAndre Williams was the lone Crusader in double figures at 12 points with BU holding reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week Max Green to just eight points on 2-of-8 shooting. Both Joe Nugent and Caleb Kenney tallied nine points apiece, as the Crusaders finished the game shooting 6-of-21 (.286) from behind the arc after entering the contest at 39.3 3FG%.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Junior Nico Nobili opened the game with a layup to help the Terriers start on a 17-5 run capped by freshman Azmar Abdullah's 3-pointer at 12:54.
  • After Brewster extended the lead to 20-7 a minute later, HC responded with a 17-4 run to tie the game, 24-24, at 4:18 on DeAndre Williams' floater.
  • Alexander broke a 26-26 deadlock on a 3-pointer with 99 seconds left in the half, and Roy converted on his steal with a fastbreak layup to enter the locker room ahead, 31-26.
  • Green briefly cut the Crusaders' deficit to one point, 35-34, at 15:03 in the second half, but HC would never get any closer, as Alexander drove to the hoop for a layup to spark a 18-3 run ended by Roy's 3-pointer at 8:09.
  • The Crusaders never managed to cut BU's lead any closer than nine points for the loss.
